| About Photos | | | Basic Image Editing TipsImportant:
We recommend that you work on a copy of the file, not the original. Think of your original picture as your "digital negative", the negative you can always go back to in case anything goes wrong with the copy you're working on. If you are not satisfied with the results, you can always start again by making another copy from the original. Editing an image will change the image file stored on your computer.
If there is something that needs correction on the image, such as tint, brightness or red eye, use image editing software to touch-up features on the image. In some cases, image editing tools may be included with your digital camera software.
Rotating an Image
MyPhotoServer allows you to choose the appropriate rotation option (clockwise or counter-clockwise). You may also custom rotate an image to any angle.
When rotating an image you may want to select the antialiasing checkbox. Antialiasing is a technique for reducing jagged lines and curves by using shades of gray and color to smooth out the contrast between neighboring pixels. While this technique may result in a loss of overall image clarity, it greatly reduces the appearance of jaggies.
Resizing an Image
When resizing an image we recommend selecting the "aspect ratio" checkbox. The aspect ratio of a photo is the relationship between its height and width. For example, a square image has an aspect ratio of 1:1 - the width is equal to the height.
Although not as critical for your online photo album, aspect ratio is important when you print a photo in a standard size - 4 x 6", 5 x 7", or 8 x 10".
Reduce Color
Reducing the colors in an image should create an image file that is smaller than the original image (and thus takes less download time) when viewing the image in your online gallery.
